Its not the right fit with your NIKON d3000 18-55mm. you have to keep the hood lose so that you can do a decent shoot. Otherwise the hood is in the way. May be ok with 55-200mm, but then for a big lens like that you need a better bigger hood obviously.

This lens hood isn't well suited to the Nikon 18-55mm lens as you'll start to see vignetting around 20mm.
